What Is MRV-IN-REACH-CHARACTER-MIB?

MRV-IN-REACH-CHARACTER-MIB is a vendor-specific module for MRV Communications' In-Reach family of console/terminal servers, covering the environmental-monitoring and power-management features built into these devices. It exposes environmental sensor data (temperature/humidity and units), contact-closure/alarm inputs, circuit-breaker status, and a controllable power outlet table with per-outlet naming, on/off control, and remote reboot. This makes it strongly oriented toward monitoring physical hardware status: ambient temperature and humidity, external alarm/contact-closure sensor trips, circuit breaker faults, and the operational on/off state (including redundancy) of each managed power outlet. It is part of MRV's proprietary In-Reach MIB family and is typically used alongside the companion In-Reach chassis and Ethernet MIBs for the same device. Typical deployment is data-center or remote-site equipment racks where an In-Reach console server also provides environmental monitoring and remote power-cycling of attached equipment. Engineers can download the MRV-IN-REACH-CHARACTER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MRV-IN-REACH-CHARACTER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An admin polls basicTemperatureHumiditySensor and basicTemperatureUnits to track ambient rack temperature/humidity, and watches basicContactClosureOrAlarmInputTable (basicContactClosureOrAlarmInputEntry) for a tripped door or alarm contact. basicPowerOutletTable (basicPowerOutletEntry, indexed by basicPowerOutletIndex) exposes basicPowerOutletName and basicPowerOutletOnOff so the admin can remotely power-cycle a hung device via basicPowerOutletReboot, basicPowerOutletRedundant flags whether an outlet is on a redundant feed, and basicEnvironmentalManagerCircuitBreaker reports circuit-breaker trip status for the outlet bank.
