Category: IP Routing, MPLS

Description: Manages Maipu DataComm router OS configuration, interfaces, and protocol state.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MPIOS-MIB?

MPIOS-MIB is a Maipu Communication proprietary MIB for the MP2600 series router operating system, whose module description states it covers "the process and memory information" of the device. It exposes detailed memory-pool statistics (numBytesFree, numBytesAlloc, memoryTotalBytes, allocBytesPercent) alongside a task table (taskTable/taskEntry/taskId) listing running processes/tasks on the router. This MIB is squarely aimed at monitoring the software health of the router — free vs. allocated memory, block-size fragmentation (avgBlockSizeFree, maxBlockSizeFree), and the per-task process list — which are key indicators of memory leaks, fragmentation, or runaway processes on the router OS. No specific external MIB dependency is indicated; it is a self-contained proprietary MIB under the Maipu router OS ('MPIOS') product tree. It is deployed for operational monitoring of Maipu MP2600-family routers and similar Maipu DataComm networking equipment, and network teams typically start with an MPIOS-MIB download to load these objects into their SNMP management tools.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MPIOS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Maipu MP2600 router
  • Maipu DataComm networking equipment

Monitoring Examples

Polling memoryTotalBytes alongside numBytesFree and numBytesAlloc under sysMemory shows overall memory pressure, while allocBytesPercent gives a quick utilization percentage; a rising allocBytesPercent combined with a shrinking maxBlockSizeFree in the free-block statistics would indicate memory fragmentation, and cross-referencing taskTable (via taskId) helps identify which running task is consuming the most memory.

What Can Be Monitored

  • free/allocated memory bytes
  • memory block fragmentation
  • total memory and utilization percent
  • running task/process list
  • system memory pool status

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using rtrIcmpEchoPktTotalSend OID:

Select a Maipu MP2600 router as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type rtrIcmpEchoPktTotalSend into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports total packets which send by the ICMP entity. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
