What Is MICOM-ISDN-MIB?

MICOM-ISDN-MIB is a vendor MIB for Micom (NetVantage/Compatible Systems lineage) WAN access equipment that terminates ISDN BRI and PRI lines. It exposes configuration and status data for ISDN basic-rate interfaces, D-channel signaling protocols, calling/sub-address information, and LAPD link-layer state on the device's ISDN ports. Administrators use it to monitor hardware and line status directly — line topology and signal mode of each BRI port, signaling protocol and LAPD link status (up/down), and dial control configuration reveal whether an ISDN circuit is properly synchronized or has dropped. It complements standard interface MIBs (IF-MIB) by adding ISDN-specific signaling detail not covered by generic interface counters. It is typically deployed on legacy WAN routers/access concentrators using ISDN as a primary or backup dial-up link in branch-office networks, where administrators can download the MICOM-ISDN-MIB file to load into their MIB browser before polling these devices.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MICOM-ISDN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll nvmIsdnBasicRateTable/nvmIsdnBasicRateEntry to check nvmIsdnBasicRateLineTopology and nvmIsdnBasicRateSignalMode for each BRI port, confirming the line is provisioned as point-to-point or point-to-multipoint and correctly synchronized. Polling nvmIsdnSignalingTable's nvmIsdnSignalingProtocol and mcmIsdnLapdTable would show whether the D-channel LAPD link is established; a LAPD link stuck in an establishing state typically indicates a carrier provisioning mismatch or physical layer fault. nvmIsdnSignalingInfoTrapEnable lets an admin enable traps so signaling state changes (e.g., call setup failures) are reported proactively rather than discovered via polling.
