Description: Manages NMS Communications WAN interface configuration, encapsulation settings, and link statistics.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NMS-WAN-MIB?
This is a proprietary MIB from NMS Communications (a WAN/telephony hardware vendor) used to manage WAN interface cards, exposing configuration for encapsulation settings and link-level statistics on those interfaces. It covers the configuration side (encapsulation type, link parameters) as well as operational counters describing WAN link performance and status. Its primary monitoring use is to track the operational and hardware health of WAN interfaces, such as link up/down state and traffic statistics, which helps identify a failing WAN circuit or misconfigured encapsulation causing connectivity issues. It builds on the general WAN interface table concept and would typically be used alongside standard IF-MIB interface objects for a complete picture. It is deployed on NMS Communications WAN adapter cards used in telephony/data gateway or media-processing systems requiring WAN connectivity. Engineers can download the NMS-WAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NMS-WAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- NMS Communications WAN interface card
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll the WAN interface table's encapsulation and link statistics objects to confirm a card's WAN link is up and passing traffic at the expected rate. A WAN interface showing zero throughput or an unexpected encapsulation mismatch would indicate a provisioning error or a downed circuit. No sample object names were provided for this module, so specific identifiers cannot be confirmed here.
What Can Be Monitored
- WAN interface encapsulation setting
- WAN link statistics
- WAN link operational state
