Category: Frame Relay

Description: Manages Group Channel Multiplexer configuration and trunk statistics on Micom WAN devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MICOM-GCM-MIB?

MICOM-GCM-MIB is a vendor MIB for Micom's Group Channel Multiplexer (GCM), a WAN multiplexing device used to combine multiple channels/trunks onto shared links. It exposes global configuration (admin status, trap enable, auto-activation mode) plus a per-link table covering signaling type, protocol type, and unit/link indexing. Its key monitoring value is tracking software/link operational status: mcmGcmLinkSigOperStatus reveals whether each multiplexed link/trunk is up or down, letting operators detect trunk failures or signaling faults quickly. It appears to be a largely self-contained legacy multiplexer MIB with limited formal dependency on standard IETF MIBs, referencing its own PCM/signaling indexing scheme. It is deployed on Micom GCM WAN multiplexer units in legacy time-division / channelized WAN links connecting branch or carrier sites, and network engineers can download the MICOM-GCM-MIB file to load its object definitions into their management tools.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MICOM-GCM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Micom Group Channel Multiplexer (GCM) WAN device

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll mcmGcmLinkTable entries by mcmGcmLinkUnitIndex/mcmGcmLinkIndex and check mcmGcmLinkSigOperStatus to see if a given trunk's signaling is operational; a status flip to down would flag a failed or unplugged trunk. mcmGcmLinkSigType and mcmGcmLinkProtoType would be checked to confirm the link is configured with the expected signaling/protocol scheme after a re-provisioning change. mcmGcmGlobalCfgAutoActSelMode indicates whether automatic trunk activation selection is enabled, relevant when diagnosing unexpected trunk switchovers.

What Can Be Monitored

  • global admin status of the GCM function
  • trap notification enable state
  • auto-activation selection mode
  • per-link signaling type and operational status
  • link protocol type
