Category: Frame Relay, Vendor: Ascend/Lucent

Description: Manages Frame Relay PVC configuration, traffic shaping, and performance on Ascend equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ASCEND-MIBFRMRL-MIB?

ASCEND-MIBFRMRL-MIB is an Ascend Communications (later Lucent/Nortel) vendor MIB, auto-generated by Ascend's mibgen tool for TAOS-based WAN access equipment, configuring multilink Frame Relay (MFR) bundles and individual Frame Relay link profiles. mibmfrProfileTable, indexed by mfrProfile-MfrBundleName, defines each MFR bundle's activation state, bundle type (currently only DTE-DTE), maximum bundle members, and minimum bandwidth; mibframeRelayProfileTable, indexed by frameRelayProfile-FrName, is far larger, covering per-link nailed-up vs. switched-call configuration, LMI type (ANSI T1.617D / CCITT Q.933A) and link type (DTE/DCE/NNI), LMI timers/counters (N391/N392/N393, T391/T392), FRF.5 ATM interworking options (VPI/VCI/shaper), SVC signalling options, and phone/billing/transit numbers for switched calls. This is primarily a provisioning/configuration MIB for Frame Relay WAN circuits rather than a live-traffic-counter MIB, but reading it back tells an operator how a given Frame Relay link or MFR bundle is currently configured, useful for confirming a link matches its intended provisioning after a change. It depends on the ASCEND-MIB configuration subtree and RFC1155-SMI/RFC-1212 base types, and was deployed on Ascend/Lucent MAX/TNT-series WAN access routers running TAOS; network engineers can perform an ASCEND-MIBFRMRL-MIB download for these legacy platforms.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBFRMRL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ascend (later Lucent) MAX/TNT-series WAN access routers running TAOS

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls mibframeRelayProfileTable for a named profile to verify frameRelayProfile-LinkMgmt is set to ansiT1617d and frameRelayProfile-Active is yes; a profile showing Active as no or an unexpected frameRelayProfile-LinkType would explain why a Frame Relay circuit configured to be nailed up isn't passing traffic.

What Can Be Monitored

  • multilink Frame Relay bundle configuration and activation state
  • per-link LMI type and link management timers
  • FRF.5 ATM interworking VPI/VCI/shaper settings
  • SVC signalling and dial number configuration
  • profile active/create/delete action status
