Category: Network Management

Description: Manages modular stackable hub configuration on LANBuilder MSH chassis devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is LBHUB-MSH-MIB?

LBHUB-MSH-MIB is a 3Com-derived SNMP module for the LANBuilder Modular Stackable Hub (MSH) chassis, an early Ethernet hub/repeater product line, marked experimental in its object tree. It largely re-exposes standard MIB-II objects -- system identification and the interfaces table -- scoped to the hub's chassis and port modules rather than defining novel proprietary tables. This makes it useful chiefly for basic hardware/software status monitoring: confirming device identity (sysDescr, sysObjectID), tracking device uptime (sysUpTime), and enumerating and checking the operational state of each hub port via ifTable/ifEntry. It depends directly on the standard MIB-II (RFC 1213) interfaces group and system group conventions rather than introducing an independent object model. It was typically deployed in legacy 3Com stackable-hub wiring closets for basic port and chassis health monitoring before switched Ethernet became standard, and opening it in an LBHUB-MSH-MIB MIB Browser session remains a quick way to inspect those inherited MIB-II objects today.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LBHUB-MSH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • 3Com LANBuilder MSH modular stackable hub

Monitoring Examples

An admin polling this MIB would walk ifTable/ifEntry (keyed by ifIndex) to get ifDescr and interface status for each port on the stackable hub chassis, and check sysUpTime to confirm the hub hasn't rebooted unexpectedly. Because the object set is mostly inherited from MIB-II, there are no proprietary hub-specific status objects beyond the standard system and interface groups. A sudden reset of sysUpTime to a low value across a polling cycle would flag an unplanned reboot of the hub.
