Description: Each token ring segment contains an active monitor. Any station can become the active monitor, this is determined by a special active monitor protocol. The active monitor is responsible for checking the validity of tokens and general ring house keeping. All stations that are NOT the active monitor are standby monitors. Each standby monitor checks that an active monitor is present and is ready to become the active monitor if necessary.
