What Is MIB?

This module (registered under the generic name "MIB" but describing Citrix's NetScaler Management and Analytics System, SDX) is a Citrix enterprise-specific MIB for managing the NetScaler MAS/SDX platform, an appliance used to manage and monitor fleets of NetScaler ADC instances. It exposes system platform and product identification, software build number, and network configuration for the management-plane (SVM) and hypervisor (Xen) interfaces of the appliance, including their IP addresses, netmask, and gateway. Its MIB SNMP monitoring value centers on confirming the software/system identity and network reachability of the management system itself — verifying systemBuildNumber and systemProduct match the expected release, and that systemSvmIPAddress/systemXenIPAddress and systemGateway are correctly configured for management connectivity. It is a Citrix enterprise MIB within the broader NetScaler/SDX management framework and likely depends on lower-level interface/networking MIBs for the actual link status of systemNetworkInterface. IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MIB. An admin polling systemPlatform, systemProduct, and systemBuildNumber can confirm the exact appliance model and software build running the SDX/MAS system. systemSvmIPAddress and systemXenIPAddress reveal the management-plane and hypervisor IP addresses, and a mismatch or unexpected value here would indicate a network misconfiguration affecting the ability to manage the appliance. systemGateway and systemNetmask further validate that the management network path is correctly set for reaching the appliance from the NOC.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using systemCurrentTime OID:

Select a Citrix NetScaler SDX/MAS (Management and Analytics System) appliance as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type systemCurrentTime into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the appliance's current system time. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if this value drifts noticeably from your reference/NTP time, which would indicate a clock-synchronization problem on the appliance. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
