Category: Network Management

Description: Monitors Novell GroupWise X.400 message gateway operation, queue depths, and message delivery status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NGWX400MIB?

NGWX400MIB is a Novell GroupWise X.400 gateway MIB module (under the legacy 'wpcorp'/WordPerfect Corp enterprise tree, GroupWise's original vendor) that monitors operation of a GroupWise-to-X.400 messaging gateway. It exposes gateway identity and uptime, link status to both the internal GroupWise system and the foreign X.400 system, and message-flow counters covering bytes and message counts in each direction along with per-direction status and error counts. Its central monitoring purpose is tracking software/service status of the messaging gateway process — uptime, link connectivity state to both mail systems, and message throughput/error rates — indicating whether mail is flowing correctly between GroupWise and X.400 domains. It depends conceptually on the underlying GroupWise messaging architecture and the X.400 messaging standard for the foreign link it bridges. It was deployed in enterprise messaging environments running Novell GroupWise that needed interoperability with X.400-based mail systems, relying on the NGWX400MIB MIB to expose gateway link and message-flow status.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NGWX400MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Novell GroupWise X.400 messaging gateway server

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll ngwx400Uptime and ngwx400GatewayName to confirm the gateway process is running, then check ngwx400GroupWiseLink and ngwx400FrgnLink for connectivity status to each mail system. Comparing ngwx400OutMsgs/ngwx400InMsgs against ngwx400OutErrors/ngwx400InErrors would reveal whether messages are being delivered cleanly or failing at an increasing rate; a spike in ngwx400OutErrors while ngwx400OutBytes stays flat would suggest the gateway is rejecting outbound messages rather than simply being idle. ngwx400OutStatuses/ngwx400InStatuses would give more granular per-direction status codes for troubleshooting.

What Can Be Monitored

  • gateway process uptime
  • GroupWise-side link status
  • foreign X.400 link status
  • inbound/outbound message counts
  • inbound/outbound byte counts
  • inbound/outbound error counts
