icmpInMsgs

Module: IP-MIB

OID (symbolic): IP-MIB::icmpInMsgs

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.2.1.5.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter32

Access: read-only

Description: The total number of ICMP messages which the entity received. Note that this counter includes all those counted by icmpInErrors.

This object has been deprecated, as a new IP version-neutral table has been added. It is loosely replaced by icmpStatsInMsgs.

What is icmpInMsgs?

Holds a counter of all incoming ICMP packets the device has received. This tracks ping requests, time-exceeded, and other control messages. A network analyst uses this to assess how much diagnostic and control traffic traverses the network.
