Category: Network Management

Description: Monitors status and statistics on LANBuilder MSH modular stackable hub devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is LBMSH-MIB?

LBMSH-MIB is a companion 3Com SNMP module for the LANBuilder Modular Stackable Hub (MSH) chassis, focused on device status and per-port statistics reporting, and like its sibling module is flagged as experimental. It builds its object set primarily from standard MIB-II system and interfaces groups, giving basic hardware status (system identity, uptime) and per-port interface counters and state for the hub's modules. This makes it directly useful for monitoring hardware health -- confirming the chassis is up (sysUpTime), correctly identified (sysDescr, sysObjectID), and that each stackable hub port (ifTable/ifEntry) is operational and passing traffic. It depends on the standard MIB-II interfaces and system groups (RFC 1213) rather than defining an independent proprietary schema. Typical deployment was in legacy 3Com stackable Ethernet hub installations for basic chassis and port health/traffic monitoring. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the LBMSH-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LBMSH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • 3Com LANBuilder MSH modular stackable hub

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll ifTable/ifEntry (ifIndex, ifDescr) across the hub's modules to track per-port operational status and traffic counters, and check sysUpTime/sysDescr to confirm chassis identity and continuous operation. A port showing an unexpected admin/oper status mismatch in ifEntry would indicate a failed or disabled hub port. As with LBHUB-MSH-MIB, the object set is largely inherited MIB-II rather than proprietary hub statistics.
