Category: Device Management, Vendor: Intel

Description: Intel system MIB providing general SNMP objects for device identification, uptime, and system-level configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is INTEL-SYS-MIB?

INTEL-SYS-MIB is an Intel enterprise MIB providing general, vendor-level system identification and low-level network configuration objects for Intel-branded network devices (historically Intel's server management/network adapter agents). It exposes objects for identifying the managing agent's vendor and product name, chassis and module index for multi-slot systems, the SNMP agent's own MIB/firmware version, and a resettable "resetAgent" control, alongside a set of IP addressing objects covering the currently in-use and next-reset IP address, gateway, subnet mask, and broadcast address plus the addressing method used. Its monitoring focus is squarely on software/agent status and network configuration rather than deep hardware sensors: administrators can confirm agentProductName and mibversion to identify what's running, use resetAgent to force a management-agent reset, and compare ipAddressInUse/ipAddressMethodInUse against ipAddressMethodNextReset to catch a pending network-configuration change that will take effect after the next reboot. It has no strong dependency on external IETF standards beyond the general SNMPv2-SMI framework, functioning as a largely self-contained system-identification MIB. This MIB is found on legacy Intel-manufactured network devices and server management modules that expose an embedded SNMP agent for basic identification and IP configuration management. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the INTEL-SYS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in INTEL-SYS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Intel-manufactured network devices / server management modules with embedded SNMP agent

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll agentVendorName, agentProductName, and mibversion to confirm device identity and agent firmware version, then check ipAddressInUse and ipAddressMethodInUse to verify the device's current network configuration. Comparing ipAddressMethodNextReset against ipAddressMethodInUse reveals whether a pending addressing-method change (e.g., static to DHCP) is queued to take effect at the next reset, which could catch an administrator by surprise if forgotten. Setting resetAgent lets an operator remotely restart the management agent on a specific agentChassisIndex/agentModuleIndex in a multi-slot system without needing physical access.

What Can Be Monitored

  • agent vendor/product identity and MIB version
  • chassis/module index
  • current vs. pending IP address configuration
  • gateway and subnet mask in use
  • ability to remotely reset the agent
