Category: Device Management, Vendor: Avaya

Description: Monitors Remote Commands (RCMDS) execution and results on Bay Networks (Nortel) network devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BayNetworks-RCMDS-MIB?

BayNetworks-RCMDS-MIB is a legacy Bay Networks/Wellfleet proprietary MIB (built on the shared Wellfleet-COMMON-MIB SMI) configuring the Rcmds (r-commands: rlogin daemon) service on Wellfleet routers. Its objects cover create/delete/disable controls, a reserved port, Kerberos realm/KDC name and host-service key, router hostname, and a detailed rlogind sub-configuration — delete/disable/state, prompt text, login/password/command timeouts, login retries, cumulative login and error counts (user/manager/other), active sessions, manager/user auto-scripts, abort-logout-disable flag, and history depth. As a configuration/status MIB it lets an administrator confirm rlogind is enabled with the intended timeout and Kerberos authentication settings, and watch active-session and login-error counts. It is deployed on legacy Bay Networks/Wellfleet routers. Engineers can download the BayNetworks-RCMDS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BayNetworks-RCMDS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Legacy Bay Networks/Wellfleet routers

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks wfRcmdsRlogindUserLoginErrors to catch repeated failed rlogin attempts against a legacy Wellfleet router before escalating a suspected brute-force attempt.

What Can Be Monitored

  • rlogind (Rcmds) login activity and error counts
