Description: IEEE 802.1 MIB for Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) remote management providing centralized configuration of TSN stream reservations.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IEEE8021-TSN-REMOTE-MANAGEMENT-MIB?

IEEE8021-TSN-REMOTE-MANAGEMENT-MIB is a vendor-neutral IEEE 802.1 standards MIB supporting centralized/remote management of Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) bridges under the IEEE 802.1Q Stream Reservation Protocol (SRP) enhancements, letting a central network controller retrieve per-bridge delay characteristics needed to compute deterministic paths for TSN streams. It exposes bridge-level and per-port propagation and queuing delay data, including independent and dependent delay minimums/maximums and transmission propagation delay, organized by ingress/egress port pairs. For monitoring purposes it is used to verify the software/topology state a TSN controller relies on, confirming per-port delay values are within expected bounds and that static tree support is correctly reported, since incorrect delay data would cause a centralized scheduler to compute infeasible or jitter-prone TSN streams. It depends on and extends the base IEEE 802.1Q Bridge MIB and interacts with Stream Reservation Protocol and Scheduled Traffic (802.1Qbv) mechanisms. It is typically deployed in centrally-managed TSN network fabrics such as industrial control, automotive, or avionics networks using a fully-centralized configuration model. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the IEEE8021-TSN-REMOTE-MANAGEMENT-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IEEE8021-TSN-REMOTE-MANAGEMENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) bridges/switches
  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer

Monitoring Examples

A central TSN controller polls ieee8021TsnRemoteMgmtBridgeDelayTable/Entry for a given ingress/egress port pair to retrieve ieee8021TsnRemoteMgmtIndependentDelayMin/Max and DependentDelayMin/Max, using these bounds to compute whether a proposed stream reservation can meet its latency budget. The ieee8021TsnRemoteMgmtPropagationDelayTable/Entry exposes ieee8021TsnRemoteMgmtTxPropagationDelay per link, letting the controller detect a cable or port change that has altered measured propagation delay. ieee8021TsnRemoteMgmtStaticTreesSupported tells the controller whether the bridge can support pre-computed static forwarding trees for TSN streams.

What Can Be Monitored

  • bridge ingress/egress port delay bounds
  • independent and dependent queuing delay
  • link propagation delay
  • static tree support capability

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using ieee8021TsnRemoteMgmtMrpIndicationChangeCounter OID:

Select a device implementing IEEE8021-TSN-REMOTE-MANAGEMENT-MIB as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type ieee8021TsnRemoteMgmtMrpIndicationChangeCounter into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. This attribute is used to provide the number of changes done to the ieee8021TsnRemoteMgmtMrpIndicationList. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
