Description: IEEE 802.1 MIB for Forwarding and Queuing Enhancements for Time-Sensitive Streams (802.1Qav) providing credit-based shaper management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IEEE8021-FQTSS-MIB?

This is a vendor-neutral IEEE 802.1Qav standards MIB for Forwarding and Queuing Enhancements for Time-Sensitive Streams, used to manage credit-based traffic shaping on Ethernet bridges supporting Audio/Video Bridging (AVB)/Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN). It exposes per-port, per-traffic-class shaper configuration: bandwidth allocation, idle-slope values (operational and administrative), and transmission selection algorithm assignment per traffic class. Its status data concerns configuration and operational state of traffic shapers rather than hardware faults, letting an operator verify that time-sensitive streams are being allocated the correct bandwidth credit on each port. As part of the IEEE 802.1Q family it is designed to work alongside other 802.1Q bridge MIBs (e.g., spanning tree, PSFP, preemption) that together implement TSN behavior. It is typically deployed on TSN/AVB-capable industrial or professional AV network switches carrying time-sensitive audio, video, or control traffic. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the IEEE8021-FQTSS-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IEEE8021-FQTSS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, IEEE 802.1Qav standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • TSN/AVB-capable Ethernet bridge or switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator would walk ieee8021FqtssBapTable, keyed by traffic class via ieee8021FqtssBAPTrafficClass, to inspect ieee8021FqtssDeltaBandwidth and confirm the correct bandwidth is reserved for an AVB stream on a port. Comparing ieee8021FqtssOperIdleSlopeMs/Ls against ieee8021FqtssAdminIdleSlopeMs/Ls reveals whether an administratively configured shaping rate has actually taken effect operationally, and ieee8021FqtssTxSelectionAlgorithmTable shows which transmission selection algorithm is applied per ieee8021FqtssTrafficClass; a mismatch would explain unexpected jitter on a time-sensitive stream.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-port/per-class bandwidth allocation (delta bandwidth)
  • operational vs administrative idle slope
  • transmission selection algorithm per traffic class
  • credit-based shaper configuration
