Description: IEEE 802.1 MIB for Multiple Instance Registration Protocol (MIRP) providing GARP/MRP protocol instance management.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is IEEE8021-MIRP-MIB?
IEEE8021-MIRP-MIB is a standards-based IEEE 802.1 MIB module defining objects for the Multiple I-SID Registration Protocol (MIRP), part of the IEEE 802.1Qbe extension used in Provider Backbone Bridged Networks (PBBN). It exposes per-port protocol state and configuration data such as protocol enablement status, backbone VLAN ID (BVID) associations, and destination selector settings for I-SID registration. In monitoring terms it is used chiefly to check the operational/administrative enabled status of MIRP on each bridge port and confirm per-port configuration consistency across a PBB network, rather than to monitor traditional hardware health metrics like temperature or CPU. It depends on and extends the broader IEEE 802.1Q Bridge MIB framework and PBB (802.1ah) constructs referenced by the BVID and I-SID objects. It is typically deployed in carrier-grade Ethernet switches and provider backbone bridges within service-provider network cores where I-SID-based service instances must be registered and disseminated. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the IEEE8021-MIRP-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IEEE8021-MIRP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Provider Backbone Bridge (PBB) switches
- carrier Ethernet switches
- vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
Monitoring Examples
An administrator polling ieee8021MirpV2PortTable/ieee8021MirpV2PortEntry can check ieee8021MirpV2PortEnabledStatus per port to confirm MIRP is active where expected. Cross-referencing ieee8021PbbMirpEnableStatus, ieee8021PbbMirpBvid, and ieee8021PbbMirpDestSelector reveals whether a backbone VLAN's I-SID registration is misconfigured or disabled on a port, which would show up as unreachable service instances. The ieee8021MirpV2Conformance/Compliances/Groups objects define conformance requirements rather than live monitoring data.
What Can Be Monitored
- MIRP protocol enabled status per port
- PBB MIRP enable status
- backbone VLAN ID (BVID) association
- destination selector configuration
- plug-and-play (PNP) enable state
