Category: Standard: IEEE 802, Vendor: Extreme Networks
Description: Manages IEEE 802.1ag Connectivity Fault Management (CFM) domains and MEP instances on Extreme Networks equipment.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is EXTREME-CFM-MIB?
EXTREME-CFM-MIB is an Extreme Networks extension to the standard IEEE8021-CFM-MIB, adding vendor-specific objects for IEEE 802.1ag Connectivity Fault Management (CFM), which detects and isolates Ethernet connectivity faults across a maintenance domain. It exposes CFM group tables (name, index, status) and per-group Maintenance End Point (MEP) associations, including remote MEPs and client relationships, along with notification objects for fault events. This MIB is fundamentally a fault-monitoring module: it lets an operator see which CFM groups/MEPs are configured and active, track remote MEP reachability, and receive traps when connectivity faults are detected between MEPs. It explicitly depends on and extends the standard IEEE8021-CFM-MIB, so it must be used together with that base MIB for full CFM object coverage. It is deployed on Extreme Networks switches in carrier Ethernet or enterprise networks using CFM for end-to-end Ethernet service assurance. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the EXTREME-CFM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EXTREME-CFM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Extreme Networks Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An operator would check extremeCfmGroupTable, via extremeCfmGroupIndex, for each extremeCfmGroupName and confirm extremeCfmGroupStatus/extremeCfmGroupRowStatus show the CFM domain as active. Reviewing extremeCfmGroupRemoteMEPs against extremeCfmMepIfIndex reveals whether all expected remote maintenance endpoints are still reachable. A remote MEP dropping out of extremeCfmGroupRemoteMEPs, combined with an extremeCfmNotifications trap, would indicate an Ethernet connectivity fault on that CFM path requiring investigation.
What Can Be Monitored
- CFM group name and status
- CFM group row status
- MEP interface association
- remote MEP reachability
- CFM fault notifications
