All MIBs › CENTILLION-VLAN-MIB
Category: ATM, VLAN and Bridging, Vendor: Nortel
Description: Manages VLAN configuration and port VLAN membership on Nortel Centillion ATM/LAN switch platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CENTILLION-VLAN-MIB?
CENTILLION-VLAN-MIB manages VLAN configuration and port membership on Nortel Centillion ATM/LAN switch platforms, letting administrators define VLANs and assign switch ports (including ATM/Token Ring 'ring' ports) to them. It exposes per-port VLAN membership entries, including card and port identifiers, VLAN ID (VID), membership status, ingress tagging type, and whether the membership was statically configured or dynamically learned. Its monitoring value is chiefly configuration/state verification: administrators check port VLAN assignments and status to confirm a port is in the expected VLAN and to catch unintended dynamic VLAN membership changes that could indicate a misconfiguration or security issue. It builds on general VLAN/802.1Q bridging concepts adapted for Centillion's ATM/LAN-emulation fabric and interacts with CENTILLION-BRIDGEGROUP-MIB and CENTILLION-LESBUS-MIB. It is used in legacy Nortel Centillion switch deployments carrying multiple VLANs across ATM backbones, where CENTILLION-VLAN-MIB SNMP monitoring helps confirm VLAN port assignments remain correctly configured.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CENTILLION-VLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Nortel Centillion ATM/LAN switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll cnVlanPortMemberTable/cnVlanPortMemberEntry, keyed by cnVlanPortMemberCard and cnVlanPortMemberPort, to verify cnVlanPortMemberVID and cnVlanPortMemberStatus for a given port and confirm it belongs to the intended VLAN. cnVlanPortMemberDynamic reveals whether a port's VLAN membership was learned dynamically rather than statically assigned, useful when diagnosing an unexpected VLAN hop. cnVlanPortMemberIngressType and cnVlanPortMemberIfIndex tie the VLAN entry back to the underlying interface for cross-referencing with standard interface statistics.
What Can Be Monitored
- VLAN port membership
- VLAN ID per port
- membership status (static/dynamic)
- ingress tagging type
- port-to-VLAN mapping
