Description: Huawei CE-ping (customer edge ping) MIB for initiating and monitoring end-to-end connectivity tests across Layer 2 VPN circuits.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HUAWEI-CE-PING-MIB?
HUAWEI-CE-PING-MIB is a Huawei private MIB supporting a customer-edge-ping-style VPLS quality-detection function, used to initiate and monitor end-to-end connectivity tests across Layer 2 VPN (VPLS) circuits. It exposes objects for configuring ping-like test parameters and reporting the results (reachability, latency, or failure) of these connectivity probes between VPLS endpoints. Its monitoring value is squarely in verifying software-level service health: an operator uses it to confirm that VPLS pseudowires are passing traffic correctly, spotting connectivity faults before customers notice service degradation. It depends on the underlying VPLS/pseudowire and MPLS infrastructure (and likely on other Huawei VPLS MIBs) since the test targets are VPLS circuit endpoints rather than plain IP hosts. It is deployed on Huawei carrier-edge devices offering VPLS-based Layer 2 VPN services to enterprise customers, where HUAWEI-CE-PING-MIB SNMP monitoring verifies pseudowire connectivity before customers notice degradation.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-CE-PING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Huawei carrier-edge routers/switches offering VPLS service
Monitoring Examples
An operator would trigger a test entry (analogous to a ping-test control table) specifying the target VPLS instance/peer, then poll the corresponding result object for reachability status and round-trip time. A test that consistently reports failure or timeout for a specific VPLS peer indicates a broken pseudowire or misconfigured VPLS instance, prompting further investigation into the underlying MPLS core. This provides an automated, protocol-aware alternative to manual ICMP ping for validating Layer 2 VPN service health.
What Can Be Monitored
- VPLS end-to-end connectivity test results
- test round-trip time/reachability
- per-VPLS-instance test configuration
