Category: MPLS and Traffic Engineering, Technology: OAM, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: Manages MPLS OAM functions including LSP ping and BFD-based continuity checks on H3C MPLS networks.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HH3C-MPLSOAM-MIB?

HH3C-MPLSOAM-MIB is an H3C (Hewlett-Packard/Huawei-3Com heritage) enterprise MIB for managing Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM) functions on MPLS label-switched paths (LSPs), a core capability of carrier and enterprise MPLS routers. It exposes configuration and status data for OAM detection sessions, such as ingress detection entries, detection type and frequency, LSP identifiers, and enable/disable flags, along with a notifications group for OAM events. Its primary monitoring value is fault detection on the MPLS data plane: it lets an operator confirm whether an LSP's continuity-check or ping-style OAM session is enabled and functioning, effectively monitoring the software-level health of MPLS forwarding paths rather than physical hardware. It builds on standard MPLS and OAM concepts defined by IETF MPLS MIBs and is meaningful only where MPLS LSPs are already provisioned. It is typically deployed on H3C routers and switches acting as label switch routers (LSRs) in service-provider or large enterprise MPLS backbones. Engineers can download the HH3C-MPLSOAM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HH3C-MPLSOAM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C router or switch acting as an MPLS label switch router

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll hh3cMplsOamIgrTable / hh3cMplsOamIgrEntry, keyed by hh3cMplsOamIgrIndex, to check hh3cMplsOamIgrDetectType and hh3cMplsOamIgrDetectFreq against a given hh3cMplsOamIgrLspName, confirming the LSP under test matches its configured detection interval. Reading hh3cMplsOamIgrEnable reveals whether OAM detection is currently active for that LSP, and a false/disabled value where it should be enabled would flag a misconfiguration. The hh3cMplsOamNotifications group would fire traps (gated by hh3cMplsOamTrapOpen) if a continuity check on an LSP defined by hh3cMplsOamIgrLspId fails, alerting on an MPLS path fault.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MPLS OAM capability status
  • OAM trap enable state
  • LSP detection type
  • LSP detection frequency
  • ingress detection session status
  • OAM enable/disable per LSP
