Description: HP ServerNet (Foundry-heritage) SNMP agent MIB providing system-level management and agent information for HP SN network devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HP-SN-AGENT-MIB?
HP-SN-AGENT-MIB is HP's ServerNet/Foundry-heritage system agent MIB providing chassis-level identification and hardware status for HP network switches, within the core device/hardware-management area. It exposes system and chassis inventory data (type, serial number, board descriptions, port totals) directly alongside hardware health indicators — power supply status, fan status, and status/traffic/media LED states. This MIB is squarely a hardware-monitoring MIB: snChasPwrSupplyStatus and snChasFanStatus let an administrator directly detect a failed power supply or fan before it causes overheating or a chassis shutdown, while snChasMainBrdDescription/snChasExpBrdDescription with their port-total counters confirm the physical hardware configuration matches expectations. It typically complements the standard ENTITY-MIB and IF-MIB for a fuller physical/logical inventory picture, since this Foundry-heritage chassis MIB predates or supplements those standards. Typical deployment is HP/Foundry-heritage chassis-based switches where NOC staff poll chassis health objects and enable trap generation for proactive power/fan fault alerting. Engineers can download the HP-SN-AGENT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HP-SN-AGENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP/Foundry-heritage chassis-based network switches
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll snChasPwrSupplyStatus and snChasFanStatus regularly; a status value indicating failed or not-installed on either flags an imminent hardware fault requiring physical intervention. snChasMainBrdDescription and snChasMainPortTotal (plus the expansion equivalents snChasExpBrdDescription/snChasExpPortTotal) let an inventory system confirm the chassis's actual populated port count, while snChasSerNum ties the polled data to a specific physical unit. Enabling snChasEnablePwrSupplyTrap causes the device to proactively send an SNMP trap the moment a power supply changes status, rather than waiting for the next poll cycle, which is critical for catching sudden failures in production.
What Can Be Monitored
- power supply status
- fan status
- chassis/board type and serial number
- main and expansion board port counts
- status/traffic/media LED states
- power-supply-failure trap enable state
