What Is Dell-VRTX-TRAPS-MIB?
Dell-VRTX-TRAPS-MIB is Dell's private notifications MIB (the rndNotifications module, imported alongside Dell-VRTX-MIB, Dell-VRTX-DEVICEPARAMS-MIB, and Dell-VRTX-BRIDGEMIBOBJECTS-MIB) covering the embedded switch module in a Dell PowerEdge VRTX chassis. Every trap pairs a bound rndErrorDesc (free-text detail, e.g. interface or board number) with rndErrorSeverity, and the roughly 60 defined notifications span environmental health (rlEnvMonFanStateChange, rlEnvMonPowerSupplyStateChange, rlEnvMonTemperatureRisingAlarm), Layer 2/3 protocol events (rldot1dStpPortStateForwarding/NotForwarding, vlanDynPortAdded/Removed, rlVrrpEntriesDeleted, routeTableOverflow, ipxRipTblOverflow), stacking (rlStackStateChange, rlStackVersionUpgradeTrap), port security (rlAAAUserLocked, bpduGuardPortSuspended, rldot1xPortStatusAuthorizedTrap), and PoE conditions (pseInrushPort, pseOverloadPort). Because these are the same style of RapidCity-derived switch traps found on other rebranded/OEM Dell PowerConnect switching code, monitoring this MIB is really about the health and protocol state of the VRTX chassis's embedded switch module rather than the compute blades themselves. It's deployed on Dell PowerEdge VRTX modular chassis with an integrated Ethernet switch module, and administrators managing that switch module can pull the Dell-VRTX-TRAPS-MIB download for their trap-handling configuration.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-VRTX-TRAPS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
What Can Be Monitored
- fan and power supply state-change traps
- chassis temperature threshold alarms
- spanning tree port forwarding state-change traps
- VRRP/routing table overflow traps
- stack state and firmware version traps
- PoE inrush/overload port traps
Supported Devices
- Dell PowerEdge VRTX modular chassis with an embedded PowerConnect-derived switch module
Monitoring Examples
An operator watches for rlEnvMonPowerSupplyStateChange or rlEnvMonFanStateChange traps with rndErrorSeverity indicating warning or critical on the VRTX's embedded switch module; a fan trap reporting notFunctioning alongside a rising rlEnvMonTemperatureRisingAlarm would indicate the switch module is at risk of thermal shutdown.
