TEXTUAL-CONVENTION

What Is HP-ICF-TC?

HP-ICF-TC is a pure textual-convention (TC) module for HP's ICF (Internetworking Core Firmware) MIB family, used across HP ProCurve managed switches. It defines shared data types, such as enumerations and formatted strings, rather than any actual managed objects, so it exposes no monitoring data of its own. As a TC-only module it plays no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status; it simply standardizes how other HP ICF MIBs — covering ports, VLANs, and stacking — declare their syntax. Its dependency relationship runs in reverse from most MIBs: virtually every other HP ICF/ProCurve MIB module imports type definitions from this one. It is deployed as a prerequisite import alongside the full suite of HP ProCurve switch MIBs on any HP ProCurve-managed network. Developers writing agent or NMS code often keep an HP-ICF-TC reference at hand to look up exactly how a given ProCurve enumeration or formatted-string type is defined before using it elsewhere.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HP-ICF-TC. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP ProCurve managed switch

Monitoring Examples

Because HP-ICF-TC contains only shared textual-convention type definitions and no OBJECT-TYPE data instances, there is no polling scenario to describe here; it is imported by other HP ICF MIBs, which are where the actual monitorable ProCurve switch objects live.
