Description: Hirschmann HiOS (HM2) WWAN MIB for 3G/4G/LTE wireless WAN modem management and cellular link status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HM2-WWAN-MIB?

HM2-WWAN-MIB is a Hirschmann HiOS (HM2 platform) proprietary MIB for Wireless WAN (3G/4G/LTE cellular modem) connectivity, used on Hirschmann industrial routers/gateways that provide a cellular backup or primary WAN link. It exposes configuration and status data for cellular technology selection, LTE persistence behavior, and dual-SIM/backup-SIM failover policy including data-limit and roaming rules. Its monitoring value is squarely on the operational status of the cellular WAN link — hm2WwanAdminStatus shows whether the WWAN interface is enabled, hm2WwanBackupSimFailoverRegistration/Roaming indicate whether the backup SIM has registered on the cellular network, and hm2WwanModemResetFailoverRegistration reveals whether a modem reset was needed to restore registration — key indicators of cellular link health in industrial deployments. It depends on general 3GPP cellular (LTE/registration) concepts represented in a vendor-private schema. It is deployed on Hirschmann industrial gateways in remote or mobile sites (utility substations, transportation, oil & gas) where a cellular link provides WAN backup or primary connectivity. Engineers can download the HM2-WWAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HM2-WWAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Hirschmann industrial routers (cellular/WWAN uplink)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll hm2WwanAdminStatus and hm2WwanCellularSelection to confirm the WWAN interface is enabled and using the intended cellular technology, then check hm2WwanBackupSimFailoverRegistration to see if the backup SIM is registered on the network. If hm2WwanBackupSimFailoverDataLimit is being approached alongside repeated hm2WwanModemResetFailoverRegistration events, it suggests the primary cellular connection is unstable and the device is repeatedly falling back to the backup SIM. Monitoring hm2WwanBackupSimFailoverRoaming also flags unexpected roaming charges if the device has moved outside its home network.

What Can Be Monitored

  • WWAN interface admin status
  • cellular technology selection
  • backup SIM registration and roaming status
  • backup SIM data usage against limit
  • modem reset/failover events

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hm2WwanDataPlanMonthlyUsageTx OID:

Select a Hirschmann industrial router as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hm2WwanDataPlanMonthlyUsageTx into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The amount of data that was transmitted since last reset. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
