Description: Hirschmann HiOS (HM2) traffic management MIB for rate limiting, storm control, and traffic shaping configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HM2-TRAFFICMGMT-MIB?

HM2-TRAFFICMGMT-MIB is a Hirschmann Automation and Control vendor MIB (part of the HiOS 'HM2' MIB family, registered under hm2ConfigurationMibs) for configuring per-interface traffic management on Hirschmann industrial Ethernet switches. It models a per-interface table (hm2TrafficMgmtIfTable, indexed by ifIndex) covering flow control, egress shaping rate and its unit (percent or kbps), and broadcast/multicast/unknown-unicast ingress storm-control mode and threshold (percent or absolute pps, up to 14,880,000), plus switch-wide scalars for global flow control and the ingress storm-bucket type (single-bucket vs. multi-bucket, i.e. whether one limiter is shared across storm types or each gets its own). This is useful for monitoring whether storm control and egress shaping are configured and enabled per port on industrial switches, and for confirming threshold values match the intended protection level against broadcast/multicast storms common in ring or bus industrial network topologies. It is deployed on Hirschmann switches running the HiOS firmware alongside other HM2-prefixed configuration MIBs. Engineers configuring industrial network protection can download the HM2-TRAFFICMGMT-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HM2-TRAFFICMGMT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Hirschmann industrial switches and routers

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls hm2TrafficMgmtIfIngressStormCtlBcastMode and hm2TrafficMgmtIfIngressStormCtlBcastThreshold for a ring port to confirm broadcast storm control is enabled with an appropriate threshold, then checks hm2TrafficMgmtIfEgressShapingRate; a port showing storm control disabled on a ring-facing interface would be a red flag for potential broadcast-storm propagation in a redundant ring topology.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-port flow control state
  • egress shaping rate and unit
  • broadcast storm-control mode/threshold
  • multicast storm-control mode/threshold
  • unknown-unicast storm-control mode/threshold
  • switch-wide storm-bucket type (single vs. multi)
