Description: Provides extended BGP-4 Version 2 management objects for H3C devices including peer state and prefix statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HH3C-BGP4V2-MIB?

HH3C-BGP4V2-MIB is H3C's implementation of extended BGP-4 (BGP4+/multiprotocol BGP) management objects, covering both IPv4 and IPv6/other address-family peering on H3C routers and Layer 3 switches. It exposes a peer table with remote peer addresses, session state, and last-error information, giving visibility into the routing protocol's operational status rather than hardware. Its central monitoring role is tracking whether BGP peer sessions are established or flapping and diagnosing the reason for a session drop via the last-error object, which reflects the software/control-plane health of the routing process rather than any physical component. It is an H3C extension of the standard BGP4-MIB concept adapted to support additional address families beyond the original IPv4-only BGP4-MIB. It is deployed on H3C core/edge routers and multilayer switches running BGP for Internet or WAN peering, including IPv6 and VPN environments. Engineers can download the HH3C-BGP4V2-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HH3C-BGP4V2-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C routers
  • H3C Layer 3 switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll hh3cBgp4v2PeerTable, keyed by hh3cBgp4v2PeerRemoteAddr, and check hh3cBgp4v2PeerState to confirm a peer is in the Established state rather than Idle or Connect. If a peer unexpectedly transitions out of Established, hh3cBgp4v2PeerLastError would be checked to identify the BGP notification code/subcode that caused the session reset. Repeated flapping of hh3cBgp4v2PeerState on the same hh3cBgp4v2PeerRemoteAddr would point to a link, authentication, or configuration mismatch with that specific peer.

What Can Be Monitored

  • BGP peer remote address
  • BGP peer session state
  • BGP peer last error/notification reason

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hh3cBgp4v2PeerState OID:

Select an H3C router/Layer 3 switch (extended BGP-4/multiprotocol BGP) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hh3cBgp4v2PeerState into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The BGP peer connection state. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is anything other than 'established', since that indicates the condition this object reports has changed to one worth investigating. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
