Description: GroupWise SNADS gateway MIB for monitoring Novell GroupWise SNADS (SNA Distribution Services) integration.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is GWSNADSMIB?
GWSNADSMIB is Novell's MIB for the GroupWise SNADS (SNA Distribution Services) gateway, which bridges GroupWise messaging with IBM SNA-based mail systems. It exposes gateway uptime, link status to both the GroupWise domain and the foreign SNADS system, and bidirectional message/byte/error counters for traffic flowing in and out of the gateway. Its monitoring focus is squarely software/service health: ngwsnadsUptime tracks gateway process availability, ngwsnadsGroupWiseLink and ngwsnadsFrgnLink report link connectivity status, and the in/out error and status counters reveal message processing failures between the two mail systems. As a Novell-private gateway MIB it has no dependency on standard MIBs beyond general SNMP conventions, though it logically pairs with other GroupWise gateway MIBs like GWPOA-MIB. It is deployed on servers hosting the GroupWise SNADS gateway component, typically in legacy enterprises bridging GroupWise with mainframe/SNA mail infrastructure. Engineers can download the GWSNADSMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GWSNADSMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- server running Novell GroupWise SNADS gateway
Monitoring Examples
An admin polls ngwsnadsUptime to confirm the gateway process hasn't restarted unexpectedly, and checks ngwsnadsGroupWiseLink/ngwsnadsFrgnLink status to verify both connection legs are up. Watching ngwsnadsOutErrors and ngwsnadsInErrors alongside ngwsnadsOutMsgs/ngwsnadsInMsgs and ngwsnadsOutBytes/ngwsnadsInBytes helps detect a growing failure rate in cross-system message translation before users start reporting missing mail between GroupWise and the SNA-based system.
What Can Be Monitored
- gateway uptime
- GroupWise/foreign link status
- inbound/outbound message and byte counts
- inbound/outbound error counts
