What Is GWIAMIB?

GWIAMIB is a Novell MIB for the GroupWise Internet Agent (GWIA), the SMTP/internet mail gateway component of Novell GroupWise, monitoring message throughput and connectivity between the GroupWise domain and external/foreign mail systems. It exposes gateway identity and uptime alongside byte and message counters split by direction (in/out) for both GroupWise-side and foreign-side links, plus status and error counters for each direction. Its monitoring focus is software/service status: gwiaTimeUp confirms the gateway process has been running continuously, gwiaStatMsgsIn/gwiaStatMsgsOut and gwiaStatBytesIn/gwiaStatBytesOut reveal mail throughput trends, and gwiaStatErrorsIn/gwiaStatErrorsOut expose delivery failures that would indicate a mail flow problem. It is a standalone Novell gateway MIB under the novell/gateways enterprise branch rather than one that extends IETF mail-related standards. It is typically deployed on Novell GroupWise Internet Agent servers acting as the SMTP gateway for organizations running GroupWise email. Engineers can download the GWIAMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll gwiaTimeUp to confirm the Internet Agent process has not restarted unexpectedly, and compare gwiaStatMsgsIn/gwiaStatMsgsOut over time to baseline normal inbound/outbound mail volume for the gateway. A sudden rise in gwiaStatErrorsOut relative to gwiaStatStatusesOut would indicate outbound mail delivery to foreign SMTP systems is failing at an abnormal rate. gwiaLinkGroupWise and gwiaLinkFrgn would be checked to confirm both the internal GroupWise-side and external foreign-side links are reporting connected/healthy status.
