Category: Quality of Service, Vendor: Broadcom

Description: Broadcom FastPath proprietary MIB defining Quality of Service Class-of-Service (CoS) queue management objects for switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is FASTPATH-QOS-COS-MIB?

FASTPATH-QOS-COS-MIB is a Broadcom (originally FastPath, later used by vendors like Netgear and Dell under license) proprietary MIB defining Class-of-Service queue configuration for switches built on the FastPath switching software. It exposes objects for configuring CoS queue behavior, such as queue weighting/scheduling and interface-level queue assignment, used to prioritize traffic classes on switch ports. Its monitoring role is mainly configuration verification: confirming CoS queue settings match intended QoS policy, which is a software-configuration status check rather than a hardware-health check, useful for explaining why certain traffic is or isn't receiving priority treatment. It is a vendor extension layered on top of switch QoS functionality and is often used alongside the companion FASTPATH-QOS-DIFFSERV-EXTENSIONS-MIB. It is deployed on managed Ethernet switches from vendors that license Broadcom's FastPath switching stack, configured and verified through the FASTPATH-QOS-COS-MIB MIB.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in FASTPATH-QOS-COS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Broadcom FastPath-based managed Ethernet switch (e.g. Netgear, Dell PowerConnect)

Monitoring Examples

The single documented group, agentCosQueueCfgGroup, provides the objects an operator would poll to confirm per-port CoS queue configuration (queue-to-priority mapping and scheduling weights) matches the intended QoS design. A mismatch here would explain why voice or video traffic marked with a given CoS value isn't receiving expected queue priority on a FastPath-based switch.

What Can Be Monitored

  • CoS queue configuration per port
  • queue scheduling/weighting
