Description: Enterasys Networks proprietary extension to the IEEE 802.1Qau Congestion Notification MIB for hardware queue profile management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ENTERASYS-CN-MIB-EXT-MIB?

ENTERASYS-CN-MIB-EXT-MIB is a proprietary Enterasys Networks extension to the standard IEEE8021-CN-MIB (802.1Qau Congestion Notification), adding configuration objects for hardware queue profiles used to implement congestion notification on platforms that cannot directly configure individual congestion-point queues. It exposes queue-profile-type and queue-profile-instance tables describing the hardware's queue-profile capabilities and current assignments. Its monitoring relevance is limited to hardware queueing configuration status: an administrator can check how many queue profile entries a given hardware component supports and which profile is currently assigned, which relates to switch fabric/ASIC configuration rather than general system health. It explicitly depends on and extends the standard IEEE8021-CN-MIB, adding vendor-specific queue-profile abstractions the standard model lacks. It is deployed on Enterasys/Extreme Networks data-center switches implementing 802.1Qau congestion notification (part of Data Center Bridging) for lossless Ethernet fabrics, where ENTERASYS-CN-MIB-EXT-MIB SNMP monitoring verifies the hardware queue-profile assignments backing that congestion-notification configuration.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ENTERASYS-CN-MIB-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Enterasys/Extreme Networks data-center Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would inspect etsysCnMibExtQpTypeTable/etsysCnMibExtQpTypeEntry to see etsysCnMibExtQptMaxQpEntries and etsysCnMibExtQptSupport for a given queue-profile type, confirming the hardware supports the number of profiles the DCB configuration requires. etsysCnMibExtQpTable/etsysCnMibExtQpEntry, indexed by etsysCnMibExtQpComponentId and etsysCnMibExtQpIndex, would then be checked to verify the correct queue profile is applied to a given congestion-point component after a configuration change. This is a hardware queue-configuration MIB rather than a live congestion-event/counter feed.

What Can Be Monitored

  • queue profile type capabilities
  • max queue-profile entries supported
  • assigned queue profile per component
  • congestion-point queue configuration
