Description: EFM-COMMON-MIB module

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is EFM-COMMON-MIB?

EFM-COMMON-MIB is a vendor-neutral, standards-based IETF MIB module defining common object types and conventions for Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) OAM, based on IEEE 802.3ah Clause 30, applicable to Ethernet-like interfaces on any physical layer. As a common module, it establishes shared textual conventions and definitions used by the broader Ethernet OAM MIB suite rather than exposing device-specific monitoring tables of its own. It has no direct runtime monitoring objects itself (no sample objects were captured), but it underpins consistent representation of OAM-related fault/status data such as link-fault detection, remote loopback, and event notification across compliant implementations. As an IETF standards MIB, it is explicitly foundational to and depended upon by the full suite of 802.3ah Ethernet OAM MIB modules. It is typically deployed alongside other Ethernet OAM MIBs on carrier Ethernet access equipment supporting first-mile link monitoring between a subscriber and provider network. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the EFM-COMMON-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EFM-COMMON-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • Ethernet-like interfaces on carrier/access network equipment (802.3ah EFM OAM)

Monitoring Examples

This module defines shared conventions and types for the IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet OAM feature set rather than pollable runtime objects (no sample objects were captured), so there is no standalone monitoring scenario to describe; the actual pollable link-fault, loopback, and event objects live in the companion Ethernet OAM MIB modules that import these common definitions.
