Description: MPLS-LC-ATM-MIB module

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MPLS-LC-ATM-MIB?

MPLS-LC-ATM-MIB is an IETF standards-track MIB defined by RFC 3035 for MPLS Label Controlled ATM (LC-ATM) interfaces, covering interfaces where MPLS labels are carried using ATM VPI/VCI values instead of a shim header. It exposes configuration data for LC-ATM interfaces, including per-interface control VPI/VCI ranges, unlabeled traffic VPI/VCI values, and VC-merge capability, alongside conformance/notification groups. Its monitoring value is primarily configuration and interface-state oriented — letting an administrator confirm an ATM interface's MPLS label-space configuration (control and unlabeled-traffic VPI/VCI ranges) and VC-merge support rather than exposing hardware health counters directly, though row status reflects operational readiness of the configured interface. It is explicitly dependent on the broader MPLS MIB framework (e.g., an MPLS label-switching router MIB) since LC-ATM interfaces are a specialized extension of general MPLS label switching. It would be deployed on MPLS-capable ATM switches/routers in service-provider networks using ATM-based MPLS label switching, a technology largely superseded by MPLS over Ethernet/Frame Relay in modern networks, though the MPLS-LC-ATM-MIB RFC (RFC 3035) remains the reference definition for engineers maintaining legacy ATM-based MPLS deployments.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MPLS-LC-ATM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • MPLS-capable ATM switches/routers

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll mplsLcAtmIfConfTable/mplsLcAtmIfConfEntry to check a given LC-ATM interface's mplsLcAtmCtrlVpi/mplsLcAtmCtrlVci (control channel VPI/VCI), mplsLcAtmUnlabTrafVpi/mplsLcAtmUnlabTrafVci (unlabeled traffic VPI/VCI), and mplsLcAtmVcMerge setting to confirm the interface is correctly provisioned for MPLS label switching over ATM. An unexpected mplsLcAtmIfConfRowStatus value, such as notInService, would indicate the LC-ATM interface configuration failed to activate, which would explain MPLS traffic not being label-switched correctly on that ATM link.

What Can Be Monitored

  • LC-ATM interface control VPI/VCI configuration
  • unlabeled traffic VPI/VCI configuration
  • VC-merge capability
  • interface row/activation status
