Description: Provides managed objects for DS0 interfaces (64 kbps digital signal level 0), used within TDM circuits in telecommunications networks.
IPNetwork Monitor uses several OIDs from this MIB in network discovery and polling the applicable devices. Start monitoring DS0-MIB with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor.
What Is DS0-MIB?
DS0-MIB is a vendor-neutral IETF standards-track MIB (RFC 2494) that defines managed objects for DS0 interfaces, individual 64 kbps digital signal level 0 channels that are the basic building blocks of T1/E1 time-division-multiplexed (TDM) telecommunications circuits. It exposes per-channel configuration such as robbed-bit signaling mode, circuit identifier, idle/seized line codes, and mapping of DS0 channels into higher-level bundles/interfaces. This is a circuit configuration and status MIB used to monitor the software/hardware-facing state of TDM channels, verifying that a channel's signaling mode and codes match what's expected, and that its mapping into a DS0 bundle (dsx0Ds0BundleMappedIfIndex) is correct, which helps detect line-coding mismatches or misconfigured channel groupings that cause voice/data circuit errors. It is designed to work alongside other IETF TDM MIBs such as the DS1/E1-MIB and DS3-MIB, forming a layered stack of physical/logical TDM interface MIBs. It is deployed on channelized T1/E1 interfaces in telecom carrier equipment, PBXs, and channel banks that terminate individual voice/data DS0 timeslots. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the DS0-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DS0-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral, standards-based IETF MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
- channelized T1/E1 telecom equipment (channel banks, PBXs, carrier multiplexers)
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll dsx0ConfigTable/dsx0ConfigEntry indexed by dsx0Ds0ChannelNumber to check dsx0RobbedBitSignalling, dsx0IdleCode, and dsx0SeizedCode settings on a channel, catching a signaling mismatch that would cause dropped or garbled calls on that timeslot. Checking dsx0ChanMappingTable/dsx0ChanMappingEntry and dsx0Ds0BundleMappedIfIndex would confirm which DS0 channels are correctly bundled into a higher-rate interface, revealing a misconfigured channel group if expected timeslots are missing from a bundle.
What Can Be Monitored
- DS0 channel signaling mode
- circuit identifier
- idle/seized line codes
- DS0-to-bundle channel mapping
