Description: Manages trap definitions and event notifications for Dell Networking switch platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is DELL-NETWORKING-TRAP-EVENT-MIB?
DELL-NETWORKING-TRAP-EVENT-MIB is a Dell Networking OS MIB that centralizes trap/event history tracking for Dell switch platforms, allowing operators to review previously fired traps via SNMP polling rather than only real-time reception. It defines a history trap event table (dellNetHistoryTrapEventTable/Entry) recording each event's sequence ID, severity, type, message text, source OID, chassis slot, and timestamp, plus a parallel active trap event table for conditions still outstanding, such as a card-down state that persists until a corresponding card-up event clears it. Its monitoring value is squarely in fault/event visibility: administrators can retrospectively audit what alarms occurred, their severity, and which slot/module raised them, and distinguish transient logged events from ongoing active fault conditions. It relies on the chassis's underlying module/slot identification and on the same trap OIDs defined elsewhere in Dell's Networking OS MIB set, complementing rather than replacing those trap-generating MIBs. It's deployed on Dell Networking modular switches/chassis in data centers where engineers need a persistent, pollable audit trail of hardware and system alarms. Engineers can download the DELL-NETWORKING-TRAP-EVENT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DELL-NETWORKING-TRAP-EVENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Dell Networking modular switch/chassis
Monitoring Examples
An engineer troubleshooting an intermittent card outage would walk dellNetHistoryTrapEventTable, filtering by historyTrapEventType and historyTrapEventSlot to find card-down/card-up pairs for a given slot, checking historyTrapEventTimeStamp for a timeline and historyTrapEventSeverity to prioritize. Checking dellNetActiveTrapEvent reveals whether that slot's fault condition is still outstanding, while dellNetLastTrapEventSeqId indicates the most recent logged event overall. dellNetChassisBootupTime helps correlate whether a burst of events followed a recent chassis reboot.
What Can Be Monitored
- historical trap event log
- active/outstanding trap events
- event severity
- event source slot
- chassis bootup time
- last trap event sequence ID
