Description: Monitors Data Domain deduplication storage appliance health, capacity, and replication status.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is DATA-DOMAIN-MIB?
DATA-DOMAIN-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Data Domain, Inc. (later Dell EMC) covering the full Data Domain deduplication storage appliance product line (dd200 through dd590g under the restorer branch). It organizes managed objects into environmentals (powerModuleTable, temperatureSensorTable, fanPropertiesTable), nvram (nvramBatteryTable), fileSystem (fileSystemSpaceTable with fileSystemSpaceSize/Used/Avail/PercentUsed), currentAlertTable, systemStatsTable, diskStorage (diskPropertiesTable, diskPerformanceTable, diskReliabilityTable), raidInfoTable, and replicationInfoTable (replState, replStatus, replLag, replPreCompBytesSent, replPostCompBytesSent). This wide coverage of hardware health, capacity, and replication state is useful for monitoring because it lets an operator confirm both the physical health of the appliance and whether deduplicated replication between source and destination systems is keeping pace. It depends on standard SNMPv2-SMI/Counter types and RFC1213-MIB DisplayString, and is deployed on Data Domain purpose-built backup appliances in enterprise data centers; administrators can download the DATA-DOMAIN-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DATA-DOMAIN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Data Domain deduplication storage appliances (dd200-dd590g product line)
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls fileSystemSpaceTable to check fileSystemPercentUsed against capacity thresholds, and separately checks replicationInfoTable's replLag and replStatus for a given replContext; rising fileSystemPercentUsed combined with a growing replLag would indicate the appliance is both running low on deduplicated storage and falling behind on its replication target.
What Can Be Monitored
- power supply, temperature, and fan status
- NVRAM battery health
- file system space used/available/percent-used
- active alert table entries
- disk properties, performance, and reliability counters
- RAID and replication context state/lag/throughput

The system may not have enough space for the routine system activities to run without error. What to do: Delete unneeded files, such as old log files, support bundles, core files, upgrade rpm files stored in the /ddvar file system. Consider upgrading the hardware or adding shelves to high-end units. Reducing the retention times for backup data can also help. When files are deleted from outside of the /ddvar space, filesys clean will have to be done before the space is recovered.

The index value of the alarm indicates the file system index that may be looked up in the fileSystem table 'fileSystemSpace' for more information about the actual FS that is getting full.
