What Is CT-DAWAN-MIB?
CT-DAWAN-MIB is a Cabletron Systems (later Enterasys) proprietary MIB for managing Direct-Attached WAN (DAWAN) interface modules on Cabletron networking chassis. Although no sample objects were extracted for this module, its name and vendor lineage indicate it exposes WAN interface configuration and operational status, such as line type, framing, and link state for serial/WAN ports attached directly to the switch/router. As with other Cabletron hardware MIBs, it would be used to monitor the operational status of WAN interface hardware, including link up/down state and interface-level configuration, complementing standard interface counters. It likely depends on or extends the standard IF-MIB interface table (ifTable/ifEntry) for indexing, since Cabletron device MIBs commonly layer vendor extensions onto RFC 1213/IF-MIB conventions. It would have been deployed on legacy Cabletron/Enterasys routers and multiservice switches providing WAN connectivity in enterprise networks of the 1990s-2000s, and today the CT-DAWAN-MIB download is mainly sought by those maintaining or documenting this older Cabletron/Enterasys hardware.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CT-DAWAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cabletron/Enterasys WAN router or multiservice switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would typically poll a DAWAN interface table (analogous to ctDawanIfTable/ctDawanIfEntry) to check the administrative and operational state of each WAN port, correlating it with the standard ifOperStatus to detect a down WAN link. Because the source module description and object list were not available for this MIB, exact object names cannot be confirmed, so integration should be validated directly against the vendor's ASN.1 source before building polling scripts. In practice such WAN interface MIBs are used to alert when a leased-line or serial WAN circuit drops, prompting investigation of physical layer or carrier issues.
What Can Be Monitored
- WAN interface administrative status
- WAN interface operational status
- interface configuration parameters
- link state changes
