What Is CISCO-VISM-RSRC-PART-MIB?

This MIB manages port resource partitioning on Cisco VISM voice modules, exposing configuration for how bearer-channel (Logical Channel Number) resources on a T1/E1 port are subdivided and allocated among partitions, plus ingress/egress bandwidth percentages per partition. It is predominantly a configuration MIB defining how call-processing capacity is divided, rather than a live hardware-fault MIB. Its monitoring role centers on software resource allocation status, as administrators check available logical channel numbers against configured low/high ranges to verify a partition has sufficient channel capacity, which is useful for capacity planning and diagnosing call-blocking issues. It works alongside CISCO-VISM-MODULE-MIB, which provides the overall card-level call statistics context for the module these partitions belong to. It is deployed specifically on Cisco MGX 8000-series WAN switches running VISM voice gateway modules. Engineers can download the CISCO-VISM-RSRC-PART-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator investigating call-blocking on a specific T1 port would query vismPortResPartCnfGrpTable / vismPortResPartCnfGrpEntry, checking vismResPartNumOfLcnAvail against the vismResPartLcnLow/vismResPartLcnHigh range for a given vismResPartPortNum and vismResPartCtrlrNum. If available LCNs are consistently near zero, the vismResPartIngrPctBW/vismResPartEgrPctBW bandwidth percentage settings might need adjustment to rebalance capacity across partitions. This complements the card-wide call statistics found in CISCO-VISM-MODULE-MIB.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using vismResPartNumOfLcnAvail OID:

Select a Cisco VISM (Voice Interworking Service Module) card, MGX platform (legacy) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type vismResPartNumOfLcnAvail into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. This represents number of LCNs available for this controller and this port. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the count changes from its expected baseline, since that would indicate the underlying set of items changed unexpectedly. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
