What Is CISCO-PFR-MIB?

CISCO-PFR-MIB is a Cisco Systems, Inc. proprietary MIB for PfR (Performance Routing), which supplements standard reachability/hop-count routing decisions with measured performance data (delay, loss, jitter, MOS, link utilization) to select the best exit path. Its Master Controller (MC) table, keyed by index, records storage type/row status, map index, keepalive timer, max total/learn prefix counts, entrance/exit link max utilization, port number, traceroute-probe delay, RSVP post-dial delay and signaling retries, NetFlow exporter, admin/operational/connection status, border-router and exit counts, learn state and time remaining, and prefix count/learned count. As a configuration/performance MIB it lets an administrator confirm PfR's learned-prefix count and border-router/exit topology, and watch link-utilization thresholds driving path selection. It is deployed on Cisco Systems routers running Performance Routing (PfR). Engineers can download the CISCO-PFR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using cpfrMCPrefixCount OID:

Select a Cisco router (Performance Routing / PfR) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type cpfrMCPrefixCount into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. This object indicates the total number of prefixes PfR is monitoring. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline (in prefixes), since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
