Category: Cisco Devices, Quality of Service, SNMP Framework

Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for policy group management on Cisco routing and switching platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-POLICY-GROUP-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-POLICY-GROUP-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module that documents which parts of the companion CISCO-POLICY-GROUP-MIB (used for policy-group-based QoS/routing management) a particular agent implementation supports. As a capabilities module it does not itself define runtime data objects; instead it declares supported groups, variations, and access levels for the real MIB. It is not used to monitor hardware or software status directly—it is a static conformance/compatibility declaration read by NMS tooling to determine what a device's SNMP agent supports. Its entire purpose is to describe conformance to CISCO-POLICY-GROUP-MIB, so its dependency on that MIB is total. It is typically referenced by network management systems during MIB-compilation/compatibility checks against Cisco routing and switching platforms, rather than being polled at runtime. Engineers can download the CISCO-POLICY-GROUP-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-POLICY-GROUP-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco routing/switching platforms (conformance declaration only)

Monitoring Examples

This module has no sample runtime objects because it is a pure AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module; it contains only capability/compliance declarations for CISCO-POLICY-GROUP-MIB and is not something an administrator would poll for live monitoring data.
