What Is CISCO-ENTITY-FRU-CONTROL-MIB?
CISCO-ENTITY-FRU-CONTROL-MIB manages and monitors Field Replaceable Units (FRUs) on Cisco hardware, such as power supplies, fans, processor modules, and interface modules that appear in the Entity MIB's entPhysicalTable. It exposes configuration data (administrative control of FRUs) and operational status data (power redundancy mode, current draw, power status). This MIB is squarely a hardware-health monitoring MIB: it directly reports power supply group redundancy mode and operational mode, total available versus drawn current, non-redundant-power reasons, and per-FRU administrative/operational power status, making it central to detecting power supply or redundancy failures before they cause an outage. It has a clear and notable dependency on the standard ENTITY-MIB (RFC 2737), whose entPhysicalTable indexes the FRUs this MIB manages. It is deployed across the full range of modular Cisco routers and switches with field-replaceable power supplies, fans, and line cards. An operator would poll cefcFRUPowerSupplyGroupTable/cefcFRUPowerSupplyGroupEntry to check cefcPowerRedundancyOperMode against the configured cefcPowerRedundancyMode, and compare cefcTotalDrawnCurrent to cefcTotalAvailableCurrent to see how much power headroom remains. If cefcPowerNonRedundantReason becomes non-empty while cefcFRUPowerStatusTable shows a power supply's cefcFRUPowerAdminStatus as up but its operational status degraded, that indicates a failed or missing redundant power supply requiring replacement.
