What Is CIENA-WS-MIB?
CIENA-WS-MIB is the top-level registration module for Ciena's WaveServer optical transport platform, establishing the OID subtree and base object identifiers under which the platform's functional MIB modules are organized. It does not itself define monitorable data; instead it provides the structural root (module identity and object groups) that other WaveServer MIBs build upon. As a pure structural module it carries no hardware or software status objects of its own, so it is not used directly to check uptime, temperature, optical power, or CPU/memory load — those live in the dependent functional MIBs. It is a foundational dependency for the full family of Ciena WaveServer MIB modules, and documentation on the CIENA-WS-MIB MIB itself is limited to this OID-arc structure rather than any object-level detail. It is typically deployed in optical transport and DWDM network environments where Ciena WaveServer platforms are managed via SNMP.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CIENA-WS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ciena Waveserver 5 (current) — compact DCI/metro ROADM interconnect platform
- Ciena Waveserver E200 (2025) — 1RU transport platform, 24 client ports, 1GbE-100GbE
Monitoring Examples
CIENA-WS-MIB has no sample objects listed because it functions as a root/registration module; it supplies the base OID arc (cienaWsMIBObjects-style structure) that dependent Ciena WaveServer MIBs attach their optical interface, alarm, and performance tables to. There is no standalone monitoring scenario for this module — an SNMP tool loads it as a prerequisite before polling the actual WaveServer functional MIBs for line/port status.
