Description: Manages configuration backup, restore, and database operations on Ciena WaveServer platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CIENA-WS-CONFIGURATION-MIB?
CIENA-WS-CONFIGURATION-MIB is a Ciena enterprise MIB that manages configuration file operations on the Ciena Waveserver optical transport platform, including listing, saving, loading, and restoring device configuration and default files. It exposes tables for enumerating configuration files, tracking configuration file sets, and specifying default save/load filenames used for backup and restore workflows. Its monitoring focus is software/configuration-state related: it lets an operator confirm which configuration files exist on the device, verify the currently active or default configuration filenames, and detect failed or inconsistent configuration backup/restore operations rather than physical hardware issues. It is a Ciena-proprietary MIB tailored to the Waveserver's configuration management model with no dependency on a standard configuration MIB. It is used in optical network operations where configuration backup/restore and change tracking are part of routine maintenance and disaster-recovery procedures, with the CIENA-WS-CONFIGURATION-MIB MIB providing the SNMP interface for these workflows.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CIENA-WS-CONFIGURATION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ciena Waveserver optical transport platform
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll cwsConfigurationFileListTable/cwsConfigurationFileList to enumerate configuration files present on the Waveserver, and check cwsConfigurationDefaultFilesSaveFilename and cwsConfigurationDefaultFilesLoadFilename to confirm the correct default files are set before a scheduled backup or restore, catching a case where an expected configuration file is missing or a restore points at the wrong default file.
What Can Be Monitored
- list of configuration files present
- default save/load filenames
- configuration backup/restore file status
