What Is CIENA-WS-TYPEDEFS-MIB?
The CIENA-WS-TYPEDEFS-MIB MIB is a Ciena support module, originally derived from a YANG data model, that defines shared textual conventions and type definitions used across Ciena's WaveServer optical transport MIB modules. As a typedefs-only module it does not itself expose any operational data; instead it standardizes data types (enumerations, ranges, etc.) that other Ciena WaveServer MIBs reference when defining their own scalar and tabular objects for chassis, optical, and Ethernet status. Consequently it carries no monitorable hardware or software status objects itself — no uptime, temperature, or CPU counters — those live in the WaveServer MIBs that import these type definitions. Its explicit dependency is on the Ciena WaveServer YANG-derived MIB family, of which it is a foundational, shared component. It would be loaded as a prerequisite alongside other Ciena WaveServer MIBs when managing Ciena optical transport (DWDM/WaveServer) equipment.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CIENA-WS-TYPEDEFS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ciena Waveserver 5 — compact DCI/metro interconnect platform, now shipping with WaveLogic 6 Extreme (1.6T per wavelength) as of 2024/2025
Monitoring Examples
This module contains only textual-convention/type definitions and no sample runtime objects, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe — it is a supporting typedefs module, not a data-bearing one. Actual monitoring of Ciena WaveServer hardware/software status would be done through the companion WaveServer MIBs that import these types.
