Category: DOCSIS and Cable, Hardware and Environment, Vendor: ARRIS
Description: Tracks hardware components such as cards, fans, and power supplies within ARRIS/Cadant CMTS chassis equipment.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CADANT-CMTS-EQUIPMENT-MIB?
CADANT-CMTS-EQUIPMENT-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Cadant (acquired by ARRIS) used to manage and monitor the hardware equipment of the Arris/Cadant E6 Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) chassis used in cable broadband networks. It exposes hardware inventory and status data covering cards, ports, disk drives, disk volumes, and shelf-level objects, along with system clock, diagnostic test, and auditing configuration, plus a dedicated equipment trap group. In monitoring terms it directly supports hardware health monitoring -- tracking card and port presence/status, disk drive and volume health, and equipment-related fault traps with configurable severity (trapSeverity) -- making it central to detecting failed cards, degraded disks, or chassis-level faults on the CMTS, which is why CADANT-CMTS-EQUIPMENT-MIB SNMP monitoring is typically scheduled at short polling intervals on production chassis where hardware faults directly affect subscriber-facing service. It is a self-contained equipment MIB that works alongside other CADANT MIBs (such as CADANT-SHOWCM-FORMAT-MIB) covering cable-modem-specific functionality on the same platform. It would typically be deployed on Arris/Cadant E6 CMTS chassis at a cable operator's headend or hub site.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CADANT-CMTS-EQUIPMENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Arris/Cadant E6 CMTS chassis
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll cardNumber and portNumber alongside the equipmentTraps group to detect when a line card or port has failed or been removed, and would check diskDriveNumber/diskVolumeNumber objects to confirm local storage health on the CMTS. The trapCounter and trapSeverity objects let an operator gauge how many equipment faults have fired and at what urgency, useful for prioritizing response to a chassis showing repeated high-severity equipment traps. systemClock would be checked to confirm the CMTS's internal clock is synchronized, since a drifted clock can skew trap timestamps during incident investigation.
What Can Be Monitored
- card and port operational status
- disk drive/volume health
- equipment trap count and severity
- system clock synchronization
- shelf-level status

| U32 errEventId | 1.3.6.1.4.1.4998.1.1.10.1.9.1.1.1 | Unsigned32 | not-accessible | Event ID associated with the FPGA error. A row in this table defines behavior for a specific FPGA error that overrides the default behavior of the system. |
| T/F errEvLoggingEnabled | 1.3.6.1.4.1.4998.1.1.10.1.9.1.1.3 | TruthValue | read-create | If true, the card will provide notification of the occurance of the this error. When the notification occurs is dependent on the setting of errEvLogThrottleThreshold. The severity of the notification is determined by the setting of errEvLogLevel. |
| I32 errEvLogLevel | 1.3.6.1.4.1.4998.1.1.10.1.9.1.1.4 | Integer32 | read-create | If errEvLoggingEnabled is true, this setting sets the severity level of the generated notification. In general, higher values indicate lower severity. |
| T/F errEvRecoveryEnabled | 1.3.6.1.4.1.4998.1.1.10.1.9.1.1.2 | TruthValue | read-create | If true, the card can be recovered when this FPGA error is detected. When the card is recovered depends on the setting of errEvRecoveryThreshold. If this value is false, the card will not be recovered when this error is detected. |
| ROW errEvRowStatus | 1.3.6.1.4.1.4998.1.1.10.1.9.1.1.5 | RowStatus | read-create | The only set actions supported on this table are createAndGo(4) and destroy(6). |

| TIM portLastChangeTime | 1.3.6.1.4.1.4998.1.1.10.1.3.3 | TimeStamp | read-only | The value of sysUpTime at the time any of the objects in portTable last changed. |
| POR portNumber | 1.3.6.1.4.1.4998.1.1.10.1.1.99 | PortId | accessible-for-notify | Port Id used in traps. A value of 99 indicates an invalid portNumber. |
| T/F remainInDiagMode | 1.3.6.1.4.1.4998.1.1.10.1.5.1.1 | TruthValue | read-write | When set to TRUE, the device being diagnosed will remain in diagnostic state when the diagnostic test is completed. When set to FALSE, the device will revert to its original state when the diagnostic test is completed. |
| STR shelfName | 1.3.6.1.4.1.4998.1.1.10.1.2.2 | DisplayString | read-write | A string that represents the name of this machine and may uniquely identify it from other network devices. |
