Description: Manages CableHome Portal Server (PS) device configuration and subscriber access in residential gateways.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CABH-PS-DEV-MIB?

CABH-PS-DEV-MIB is a CableLabs CableHome standards MIB defining basic device management objects for the Portal Services (PS) logical element of a CableHome-compliant residential gateway. It exposes device identity and hardware attributes (serial number, hardware version, WAN management and data MAC addresses, device type identifier), configuration/provisioning state (provisioning mode, time-of-day sync status, factory reset controls and history), and system date/time. Its monitoring value spans both hardware and software/configuration status: confirming hardware version and MAC addresses for inventory purposes, checking cabhPsDevTodSyncStatus to ensure the gateway's clock is properly synchronized (needed for correct logging and scheduled behaviors), and detecting unexpected cabhPsDevResetNow or cabhPsDevSetToFactory events that would explain a gateway losing its configuration. As a CableLabs specification MIB it is vendor-neutral and works alongside other CableHome MIBs (e.g., for QoS or firewall/CAP element) as part of the full residential gateway management framework. Deployment context is cable-operator-provisioned residential gateways/modems supporting CableHome for remote configuration and management by the MSO. Engineers can download the CABH-PS-DEV-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CABH-PS-DEV-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB (CableLabs CableHome); applies to CableHome-compliant residential gateway/cable modem devices

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll cabhPsDevProvMode and cabhPsDevTodSyncStatus to confirm a newly deployed gateway has completed provisioning and synchronized its clock before enabling subscriber services. Checking cabhPsDevSerialNumber and cabhPsDevHardwareVersion against inventory records verifies the correct device model was installed at a given address. An unexpected cabhPsDevLastSetToFactory timestamp would explain why a customer's gateway lost its configuration and reverted to defaults, prompting a truck roll or remote reprovisioning.

What Can Be Monitored

  • device serial number and hardware version
  • WAN MAC addresses
  • provisioning mode/state
  • time-of-day sync status
  • factory reset events
  • system date/time
