What Is ASCEND-MIB?

ASCEND-MIB is Ascend Communications' primary enterprise MIB, defining the vendor-specific management objects for the company's WAN access and remote-access dial-up equipment, such as its MAX and Pipeline product lines (Ascend was later acquired by Lucent). It exposes configuration and operational status data for these WAN access devices, spanning system-level identification, interface/port configuration, and device status categories. It plays a direct role in monitoring hardware and software status on Ascend WAN access gear, and network operators query objects under the ASCEND-MIB OID tree to confirm system uptime, WAN interface/port operational state, and overall device health on these units. Like most enterprise MIBs, it depends on standard SNMP framework definitions (such as SNMPv2-SMI and SNMPv2-TC) for its base data types even as it defines Ascend-specific structures. It is typically deployed on Ascend Communications WAN access concentrators and remote-access routers in ISP and enterprise dial-up/WAN aggregation environments.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples
