Category: Alarm and Event Management, Vendor: Ascend/Lucent

Description: Defines alarm conditions, thresholds, and notifications for Ascend access equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ASCEND-MIBALARM-MIB?

ASCEND-MIBALARM-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Ascend Communications defining alarm conditions, thresholds, and SNMP notifications for Ascend access equipment, functioning as a general-purpose alarm/event framework across the Ascend device line. It is intended to expose alarm definitions, severity levels, and threshold-configuration objects that trigger traps when a monitored value crosses a defined limit, rather than exposing the underlying metrics themselves. Its monitoring role is broad software/hardware fault status: it is the mechanism by which many other conditions on the device (interface faults, resource exhaustion, hardware faults) get escalated as SNMP traps once a configured threshold is breached. It is designed to be used alongside other Ascend-specific MIBs whose metrics feed into this alarm/threshold framework. It was deployed on Ascend access concentrators and routers in dial-up/remote-access and early broadband networks needing centralized SNMP alerting, typically after an ASCEND-MIBALARM-MIB download was loaded into the operator's MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBALARM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ascend Communications access concentrator/router

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided for this legacy module. Based on its stated purpose, an administrator would configure alarm thresholds within this MIB against underlying device metrics (e.g., a resource-utilization or line-error counter) and rely on the resulting trap notification to be alerted proactively rather than having to poll continuously. A flood of alarms with the same severity/condition code would help an operator quickly identify a systemic problem affecting the Ascend device rather than an isolated event.
