Category: Optical and WDM, Vendor: Appian
Description: Appian Communications logical port DS3 framing and performance monitoring management.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is APPIAN-LPORT-DS3-MIB?
This is an Appian Communications enterprise MIB for managing DS3 logical port interfaces on the OSAP2k optical/access platform. It exposes objects and traps related to DS3 framing and interface performance monitoring, with acLogicalDs3Traps providing fault notifications for DS3 logical port events. Its monitoring role centers on hardware/interface fault detection, alerting operators to DS3 framing errors, alarm conditions such as loss of signal or frame, or other line-level issues on the DS3 logical ports. It likely complements the standard DS3/E3 interface MIB for baseline DS3 statistics, with this enterprise MIB adding Appian-specific trap semantics. It's typically deployed on Appian Communications OSAP2k access platforms carrying DS3 circuits in carrier or enterprise access networks. Engineers can download the APPIAN-LPORT-DS3-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in APPIAN-LPORT-DS3-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Appian Communications OSAP2k access platform (DS3 interfaces)
Monitoring Examples
A NOC monitoring station configured to receive acLogicalDs3Traps would be alerted when a DS3 logical port transitions into an alarm state, such as loss of frame or an alarm indication signal. Correlating a received trap with the affected logical port would let an operator quickly identify a failed DS3 line card or upstream circuit issue without polling every port continuously.
What Can Be Monitored
- DS3 logical port alarm/fault traps
- DS3 framing status
- DS3 interface performance
