Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-OPTICAL-PATCH-MIB?

CISCO-OPTICAL-PATCH-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB for managing optical patch records on Cisco optical networking and transport platforms, tracking the logical representation of physical fiber patches between ports within a network element. It exposes an interface-level table recording patch identifiers, index allocation, last-change timestamps, and event types, plus a core patch table mapping a low interface index to a high interface index with a patch type. Its monitoring purpose is inventory/topology accuracy rather than live traffic counters: it lets an operator verify that the software's record of which ports are patched together (cOPatchLowIfIndex to cOPatchHighIfIndex) matches the physical fiber plant, and the notifications group alerts when a patch is added, changed, or removed. It depends on the underlying IF-MIB ifIndex model for identifying the ports it patches together. It is deployed on Cisco optical transport network elements where physical fiber patch panels connect ports within the same chassis. Engineers can download the CISCO-OPTICAL-PATCH-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-OPTICAL-PATCH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco optical transport/networking platform

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll cOPatchTable / cOPatchEntry, keyed by cOPatchIndex, to read cOPatchLowIfIndex and cOPatchHighIfIndex, confirming a specific pair of optical ports is recorded as physically patched together as documented. Checking cOPatchInterfaceTable's cOPatchLastChange and cOPatchEventType for a given cOPatchIdentifier reveals when and how a patch record was last modified. A cOPatchMIBNotifications trap firing for cOPatchEventType indicating removal, without a corresponding planned maintenance record, would flag an undocumented fiber patch change on the network element.

What Can Be Monitored

  • patched port pairs (low/high ifIndex)
  • patch type
  • patch last-change timestamp
  • patch add/change/remove event type
  • patch identifier allocation
